Our Story
From a Spare Room to a Franchise Revolution
Black Franchise Group’s story begins with the remarkable journey of its founder, Michael Black. In 2017, Michael launched an education venture called Success Tutoring from a spare room in his parents’ home in Western Sydney
Armed with a passion for teaching and an entrepreneurial spark, he bootstrapped the business without external investors. What started as a small tutoring service quickly blossomed into something much bigger. Success Tutoring began positively impacting thousands of students and giving everyday Australians the opportunity to become their own boss. As the demand for quality tutoring grew, Michael expanded via franchising – enabling others to run tutoring centers under the Success Tutoring brand. In just a few short years, his one-room startup transformed into one of Australia’s fastest-growing education franchises, with dozens of locations and a nationwide presence. Along the way, Michael earned recognition as Australia’s youngest franchisor and even ranked among the Top 30 Franchise Executives in the country, highlighting the impact of his achievements.
The Birth of Black Franchise Group
Experiencing franchising’s power to scale a business and empower others, Michael saw an opportunity beyond education. He envisioned a platform that could help other businesses replicate the kind of growth and success he had achieved with Success Tutoring.
In 2020, that vision gave rise to Black Franchise Group (BFG). Founded on Michael’s core belief that franchising can change lives, BFG was created as more than just a traditional investment company – it became a business growth partner for emerging brands. From the outset, BFG’s philosophy has been about partnerships built on shared values.
Rather than simply funding ventures, BFG works hand-in-hand with franchise founders, providing mentorship, strategic frameworks, and a wealth of franchising expertise. Michael’s goal was clear: to take what he learned in building a franchise from scratch and use it to uplift other entrepreneurs across various industries. The name “Black” in Black Franchise Group is a proud nod to Michael’s own name, but it has also come to stand for a bold new approach in the franchising world – one that blends business excellence with social impact.

Championing Diversity and Inclusion
A defining element of the Black Franchise Group story is its commitment to inclusion. Michael Black firmly believes that opportunities in franchising should be accessible to everyone, especially those who have historically faced barriers in the business world. From day one, BFG set out to be a leader in helping people of colour and underrepresented groups enter franchising. This commitment isn’t just a talking point – it’s woven into the fabric of the company’s programs and outreach. By offering guidance, training, and support, BFG actively encourages aspiring entrepreneurs from Indigenous, migrant, and minority communities to take the leap into business ownership. Michael’s own journey as a young founder has shown that age or background should never be a barrier to success. Through initiatives like mentorship programs and flexible franchise entry pathways, Black Franchise Group is opening doors for a diverse new generation of franchise owners. This inclusive ethos not only empowers individuals but also enriches the BFG network – fostering a broad community of franchise partners who bring different perspectives, cultures, and ideas to the table. It’s all part of the company’s belief that franchising can drive economic empowerment and community development for all Australians.
Leading a New Era in Franchising
Today, Black Franchise Group stands as a dynamic force in the Australian franchising landscape. What began with a single tutoring center has evolved into a growing portfolio of franchise brands spanning education, technology, automotive services, and more. BFG has already launched successful franchises like Success Tutoring, MindGym, and Inlane Driving School, with new concepts (such as the upcoming Mickie’s in hospitality) on the horizon. Each brand under the BFG umbrella carries forward the group’s DNA of innovation, quality, and positive impact. Under Michael Black’s visionary leadership, BFG is pioneering a new era of franchising – one where franchise partners are treated like family, and franchisors and franchisees work collaboratively toward shared success. The company’s mantra of being “pioneers of industry” is evident in its flat franchise management style and modern support systems that give franchise owners greater freedom and support (a refreshing change from the rigid, old-fashioned franchising models).
Black Franchise Group has quickly gained a reputation for integrity and excellence, attracting both seasoned investors and first-time business owners who want to be part of its mission. As of 2025, BFG is proudly Australian-owned and operated, with an eye on international expansion in the future – but its heart remains in empowering local entrepreneurs and communities across Australia. The story of Black Franchise Group is still being written, fueled by an unwavering belief that franchising can make the world a better place one business at a time. And as BFG continues to grow, it stays true to its origins: a company founded on perseverance, innovation, inclusion, and the desire to lift others as it rises.
